In Enugu State’s presidential election held on Saturday, Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party emerged victorious, receiving a total of 428,640 votes. Other candidates trailed behind with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress securing 15,749 and 4,772 votes, respectively, coming in second and third. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party received a total of 1,808 votes, placing him in fifth position.
The collation officer, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, announced the results. The total number of registered voters was 2,112,793, while 482,990 were accredited to vote. The valid votes counted were 456,424, while 12,467 votes were rejected, making a total of 468,891 votes cast. The Labour Party also won all 17 local government areas of the state by a landslide.
