In a swift development, the Organised Labour has decided to suspend its proposed nationwide strike just 24 hours after initiating protests against the removal of fuel subsidy.
Festus Osifo, the President of the Trade Union Congress, announced the suspension during an exclusive interview with Arise News on Thursday morning. According to Osifo, the Labour leaders engaged in constructive discussions with President Bola Tinubu, during which they received commitments on several key issues raised. These commitments are set to be immediately implemented, leading to the decision to suspend the strike.
Earlier, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had declared its intention to proceed with the nationwide mass protest following an unproductive meeting with the Federal Government. NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero expressed disappointment at the lack of positive changes or concessions from the government, but reiterated their unwavering dedication to representing the interests and desires of Nigerian workers and the people.
With the suspension of the strike, the nation awaits the implementation of the commitments made by the government as a sign of progress and cooperation between the Organised Labour and the authorities.
