Federal Government announced, that it will provide three million jobs in the digital technology sector.
National Information Technology Agency (NITDA), which unveiled the plan at a workshop in Abuja, said the jobs would be provided within four years.
Director General, Kashifu Abdullahi Inuwa, made this known at the Public Sector Digital Innovation Summit, organised by Datamellon AWS (Amazon Web Services).
He said through the initiative, Federal Government will work with stakeholders to train three million technical talents, prioritise job placement, and increase level of digital literacy of the population by 70 per cent by the end of 2027.
Inuwa, represented by Acting Director (E-Government, Development and Regulation), Bernard Ewah, said the agency is currently working with the public and the private sector to surpass the target before 2027.
On his part, CEO of Datamellon, Wale Adedeji, disclosed that the company is a digital firm dedicated to revolutionising the landscape of digital sector innovation.
He said: “Our mission is to empower government and organisations with cutting-edge technology, enabling them to serve their citizens better, faster and smarter. In the digital age, data is the new currency.”
Also, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) awarded N10 million each to three startups to boost research.
Twelve startups from across the country participated in the 2023 Talent Hunt Research, of which three emerged winners. They are: Solaris Greentech, which won the renewable energy thematic area; Knownow Africa Blockchain, which won the blockchain thematic area; and Specxcare Limited, which won the assistive tech thematic area.
