Thugs attacked polling units, carted away five BVAS machines —INEC

On Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that thugs had attacked three polling units and stolen five Bimodal Voter Authentication Systems. During a briefing in Abuja, INEC chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu cited insecurity and logistical challenges as reasons for the delayed opening of some polling units. Yakubu noted that polling units in Niger, Delta, and Katsina states were targeted by the thugs, who took eight BVAS, but three were later retrieved. Despite the delays, INEC’s policy ensured that anyone in the queue before 2:30 pm would be given the chance to vote.
